Amazing Grace Mental Wellness Care is a Christian-Based Psychiatry practice that integrates psychiatric care from a Biblical Perspective. Patients may chose sessions to be strictly clinical or incorporate biblical wisdom, Christian psychotherapy, and prayer.
Deidre Opoku is the founder and board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner of Amazing Grace Mental Wellness Care. Deidre received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Cincinnati in 2002 and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Capital University in 2008. She graduated with her second MSN in Psychiatric Mental Health from The Ohio State University. She is also a Certified Christian Mental Health Coach from the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC).
Prior to starting her career as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, she worked as a Registered Nurse for 20 years in various clinical settings, including pediatric ambulatory care, inpatient pediatric and adult psychiatry, and school health services. Deidre is qualified to assess, diagnose, and treat various mental health conditions, order and interpret labs, and prescribe medication. She specializes in treating children, adolescents, and adults struggling with mental disorders, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, OCD, PTSD, substance use, and other mental illnesses. Her training enables her to include counseling and psychotherapy with treatment. Services provided include psychiatric diagnostic evaluation and medication management for various mental disorders, comprehensive treatment plans, and psychotherapy for all ages. Her personal and professional strengths are compassion and building rapport with clients to develop a genuine therapeutic relationship. She is interested in taking a holistic approach utilizing diet, exercise, Christian counseling, prayer, and psychopharmacology to decrease symptoms and improve overall wellness.

Nursing is a ministry. My ministry is to serve my community's mental, emotional, and spiritual needs with the love and grace shown to me by my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. My mission is to provide high-quality mental health care that is affordable and accessible to those in need of treatment.

Christian psychiatry is referred to the integration of teachings from the Holy Bible and current psychiatric practices. Christian psychiatrists, PMHNPs, and psychologists treat mental disorders from a Christian perspective encouraging clients to seek a more personal intimate relationship with GOD.

The Need for Christian Mental Health Care
Mental illness is a widespread medical problem in the United States, and more than 50% of Americans will be diagnosed with a mental disorder at some point in their lifespan. Research has shown that tailoring healthcare interventions in relation to patients' spiritual beliefs can yield favorable health outcomes. Likewise, regarding mental health, religion and spirituality can serve as protective factors against depressive symptoms. In some areas, rehabilitation centers cater to individuals seeking faith-based treatment for substance misuse, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Christians develop a mental illness at the same rates seen in the general population. Believers in the body of Christ seeking therapy may find a mental health provider who shares their same faith beneficial because the provider may need to be sensitive to the spiritual issues that may be part of the recovery process in line with God's Word or the Holy Bible.
Individuals suffering from mental health disorders shall be treated based on a combination of key principles of Christian psychiatry and evidence-based research for psychiatric care. Recommendations for changes in behaviors, lifestyles, and thinking patterns tend to be based on the client's Christian faith. Prescription medications and hospitalization may still be a part of the patient's treatment regimen, depending upon the severity and recurrence of the condition. However, prayer, recommendations for biblical scriptures, and ministry are also incorporated into care to assist clients in modifying their behaviors according to their faith.
